Properties
Magnesium powder is soluble in mineral acid, concentrated hydrofluoric acid, ammonium salt and hot water. The powder cloud ignition point is 600℃, and the electrostatic sensitivity is 120mJ.
It is mainly produced by electrolytic molten magnesium chloride and electrolytic molten dehydrated carnallite.
Application
It is used in rocket ramjet engines and to remove hydrogen chloride from propellant gas. It is used as a reducing agent to make flash powder, lead alloy, desulfurizer in metallurgy, and also used in organic synthesis, lighting agent, etc.
Ignition point: about 500 degrees
Magnesium powder, like aluminum powder, will spontaneously combust and explode when exposed to moisture. When there are 10-25 mg of magnesium powder per liter of air, it will explode when it encounters a fire source.
